This weekend it was (finally) so hot in Denver, my husband and I decided to head to Evergreen to get out of the heat for the afternoon. Everytime we go to Evergreen we have to stop at our favorite BBQ in CO, Switchback Smokehouse which is located on CO-74 just outside of Evergreen.

This small BBQ joint smokes their meats daily and has a rotating menu with meats that are smoked that day, along with sides that are made fresh daily. Switchback ALWAYS has a line out the door, so make sure you get there early, because once they are out of something, it’s off the menu!

Our favorites are smoked brisket, ribs, and smoked chicken wings (when they are on the menu), accompanied by one of their many great homemade sauces. In addition to the great ribs they serve a number of different BBQ sandwiches that are very delicious and filling. Their daily sides are made from scratch – when they have it on the menu get the fried zucchini! Once you have placed your order at the counter, grab a drink from their fully stocked bar, and head outside to find a table on their patio that is right on the bear creek river.

You really can’t beat a better afternoon than relaxing after a long hike and enjoying the mountain air and amazing BBQ.
